Why support Arise?

Arise is a small, but highly impactful organisation that supports the frontline of abolition in countries that are affected by human trafficking and other forms of exploitation.

“local civil society groups, where embedded and trusted by their communities, possess the key to ending slavery”  Mr Tomoya Obokata, UN Human Rights Office of the High Commission Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery.

Our unique model of accompaniment places resources directly into the hands of frontline leaders who have a deep-rooted connection to their communities.  They understand the most effective strategies for preventing exploitation and are trusted members of the community, so well-placed to support people who have been exploited in rebuilding their lives.  In addition to funding prevention, rehabilitation, and alternative livelihood projects, we provide capacity-building support through training and mentorship for our frontline colleagues.

Ways to help

Since all of our work in Albania, India, Nigeria, and the Philippines is led by local leaders, there is no one-size-fits-all Arise project.  Here are a few examples of how your donation could help fight human trafficking:

£20 could fund a counselling session for a young woman in Albania who has suffered exploitation. This type of holistic support is vital for helping people rebuild their lives.

£55 could establish a Village Vigilance Committee in India. We’ve found that communities with active committees are better equipped to identify traffickers and intervene before residents are tricked by false job offers. Watch an explainer here.

£100 could cover the cost of a culinary and business skills training course for a Nigerian woman who was trafficked to Europe and has since returned home. Offering alternative livelihoods is key to preventing re-exploitation. Watch a testimony here.

£250 could fund a series of awareness raising workshops at four schools in the Philippines so that hundreds more children are empowered to understand the risks they face online.

£500 could fund a network meeting in one of our project countries. Human trafficking is a networked crime that needs a networked  response. By supporting networks, we help frontline leaders collaborate and share knowledge, creating a global web of protection for vulnerable individuals. Watch an example here.

As a small team with low overheads, we prefer unrestricted donations to ensure we can allocate funds where they’re needed most. However, if you are considering a substantial gift of £10,000 or more, we would be happy to discuss how your contribution could support a specific country or project.  Please email our Director of Fundraising or call +44 (0)20 8163 2117 to start a conversation.
